What to do if you’ve submitted the wrong file
If your deadline has not passed
Resubmit on ELE to overwrite the submission.
The original incorrect file will be deleted and only the submission that is there when the deadline passes will be seen by the marker.
If your deadline has now passed
You will not be able to reupload to ELE as the submission point will be closed once the deadline passes. Instead, you’ll have to send us the correct file.
For ELE coursework submissions:
- Select ‘Log your question’ at the bottom of this page.
- Choose ‘Exams and assessments’, then select ‘Coursework’.
- Explain which module and assessment you are trying to submit for.
- Attach the correct file.
We may be able to upload the file for you with a late penalty based on when the file is received.
For CEDAR assessments not submitted to ELE, check the articles ‘Submitting recordings and consent forms on CEDAR programmes’ or ‘Consent Requirements for CEDAR programmes’.
For online exams:

What to do if you’ve submitted to the wrong submission point
If you uploaded the correct file to the wrong submission point, follow these steps:
If you realise before the deadline
- Submit your work to the correct submission point.
- Remove and replace the file in the wrong place before its deadline.
If you realise after the deadline
- Leave the file on the wrong submission point.
- Select ‘Log your question’ at the bottom of this page.
- Choose ‘Exams and assessments’, then select ‘Coursework’
- Explain which module and assessment you are trying to submit for.
- Attach the correct file.
You can also call your Hub/Info Point to speak to someone about this.
Penalties for late submission
If you submit after the deadline:
- Your work will still be marked
- The mark shown on ELE is provisional (before any penalty)
- Your final mark (on SRS or your transcript) will include any late penalties
Coursework late penalties
- Up to 1 hour late: minus 5% of total marks
- 1–24 hours late: mark capped at the pass mark
- More than 24 hours late: mark of 0
These apply to first attempts (including deferrals). If you are resitting (a referred attempt) and submit late, your mark will be capped at 0.

- Personal Tutor and module academics – support you in how to approach future assessments.
- Pastoral Mentors – the first point of contact if you are facing challenges that impact your ability to study.
- Wellbeing Services – support for mental health and personal wellbeing.
- Study Skills advisers – help with study skills, workshops and resources.

Planning for next time
Submitting the correct file to the right place on time is important, but mistakes can happen.
To reduce the risk of this happening again, we recommend:
- Name your files clearly so you can easily find the right version
- Leave time before the deadline (aim for at least 3 hours) in case you need to fix problems or get help
- For online exams, use the upload time to check and submit your file carefully
- Check your upload after submitting to make sure the file opens correctly (e.g. formatting, video playback)
